THE SILK MILL
A stay at Silk Mill Cottage would not be complete without a visit to the beautiful and historic Whitchurch Silk Mill. With over 200 years of Silk making history, visitors to the site today can still enjoy observing the traditional methods of Silk weaving and winding on carefully preserved looms dating back to the 1890’s.
During your visit, take a stroll around the pretty gardens, feed the ducks, swans and trout in the mill pond and of course discover how the crystal clear waters of the Test turn the original Mill wheel that still powers the Silk winding frames. The newly renovated riverside cafe is a beautiful spot to sit and enjoy the peaceful river views over morning coffee and cake, or a spot of lunch.
The Mill shop offers items made from Silk woven on-site, the perfect souvenir of your visit to the Silk Mill Cottage. We are pleased to be able to offer guests of Silk Mill Cottage 2 for 1 entry into the museum and grounds. For more information on opening hours and entry prices please visit the Silk Mill website.
